Ardmore, OK —

People in Ardmore may now drive through MTC Federal Credit Union and deposit money –– or they can get rid of unwanted items like plastic bottles, empty aluminum cans or old copies of The Daily Ardmoreite.

The credit union is the host for the Ardmore Community Recycling Center. But you don’t have to be an MTC customer to take advantage of the recycling center.

Michelin’s Ardmore facility and MTC Federal Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its community recycling center at 2001 12th Ave. NW on Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Ardmore Recycling Center will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The center will accept paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and aluminum –– all in a convenient drive-thru lane.

“We are extremely honored to partner with MTC Federal Credit Union to provide the citizens of Ardmore a place to take their recyclable items,” said Dave Brenner, manager of the Michelin plant. “Respect for the environment is one of Michelin’s core values; and our employees are committed to protecting the environment of our local Ardmore community. Now the people of Ardmore will have a convenient and well-maintained location to take their recyclable items.”

The center is a collaborative effort between Michelin and MTC Federal Credit Union. The credit union will provide and maintain the location for the center. Michelin has contracted with a company to empty the bin on a regular basis. Recyclable materials dropped off at the center will reduce the waste sent to local landfills.

“I see this partnership for the community of Ardmore as a part of our core mission for the communities we serve,” said Bill Love, CEO MTC Federal Credit Union.

Michelin’s environmental team responsible for the development and implementation of the community recycling center included: Brian Roberts, Howard Rubin, Jon Grant, Tom Betzen, Nita Clark, Tom Howell, Brian Hunziker, Art Kotzur, Karen Hodge, James Coffman, Ron Hallmark, Jamie Plymale, Jeff Henry and Ben Bruster.

“This project is one of many we are looking at to reduce our environmental footprint for the plant and for the community,” Howell said.

The environmental team has several projects on the go and this was just one of them, according to Rubin. “As part of our environmental project team, we wanted to encourage the community of Ardmore to also reduce their environmental footprint by recycling,” he said.

After the ribbon cutting, Brenner and Mr. Bib, the Michelin Man, deposited the first few bags of recyclable materials in the bin.
