Market Place On Broadway is a place where you can buy fresh, locally grown produce, plants, herbs and flowers from the people who grew them. At our market, you’ll also find locally handmade soaps and garden craft items, as well.
• “Fresh” means harvested or made within 24 hours or less of when you purchase it.
• “Local” means grown, harvested or made by your neighbors and friends here in Carter County and surrounding counties.
Market Place On Broadway is also a place where you can learn interesting things about the produce you are buying and get gardening tips, meet friends and neighbors, get a great cup of coffee and talk about the weather.
This week, Market Place welcomes back Brian and Christy Motes of Motes Produce for the season. Stop by their stand and you will find cauliflower, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage and, yes, they have kohlrabi again this year. With a little luck, they will have some new potatoes. John O’Dell will have onions, garlic and mustard greens. Jason Crow of Stratford Greenhouses will have greenhouse tomatoes, grape tomatoes, greenhouse cucumbers, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, beets and turnips. You will also find bedding plants, as well as hanging baskets. If you’re in need of cut flowers, a visit with Gary and Cathy Smith of Ladybug Farm is sure to please. You will find radishes, green onions and more. How about some collard greens from Melvett’s Farm Fresh Vegetables? Collards are rich in vitamin C and beta-carotene. You will also find radishes and green onions.
Roasted Garlic Dressing
The sweet flavor of roasted garlic blended with traditional vinaigrette makes a tasty dressing for salads and sandwiches.
Wrap 2 heads of garlic in foil. Bake in a 400-degree oven for 45 minutes to an hour, until soft. Unwrap and cut top of garlic head with scissors and gently squeeze out the soft, roasted interior. Blend with 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, 1/4 cup sherry vinegar and 2 tablespoons lime juice. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Blend well before using.
