Semi backs into highway worker on Interstate 35

A 34-year-old Oklahoma City construction worker was injured Thursday when a semi backed into him on Interstate 35 near the 49 mile marker.


The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Cimarron Kelly Stepp was working in the construction zone located in the northbound lanes of I-35 about 2:45 p.m. when Jose Everardo Fabela, 30, Oklahoma City, backed into him in a 1997 Peterbuilt truck.


Stepp suffered chest injuries and was airlifted from the scene by Eagle Med. He was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in serious condition. Fabela was not injured.


Cause of the accident was listed as improper backing.
