Farmers’ assistance available

Ardmore, OK —

Tamara Thomasson, County Executive Director of the USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Love, Carter, and Marshall counties announced that producers may now begin applying for benefits under the provisions of the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees and Farm-Raised Fish Program and the Livestock Forage Disaster Program will end on Jan. 30, 2010. These permanent disaster programs, authorized in the 2008 Farm Bill, replace previous ad-hoc disaster assistance programs and are funded through the Agricultural Disaster Relief Trust Fund.


To be eligible, the producer must have purchased or obtained the following for the grazing land incurring the losses for which assistance is being requested:


• A policy or plan of insurance under the Federal Crop Insurance Act, including pilot programs such as the Pasture, Rangeland, Forage Program


•  NAP coverage by filing the required paperwork, and paying the administrative fee by the applicable State filing deadline.
