The local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southern Oklahoma has selected Danielle Hacker as the winner of its 2008 scholarship. The selection was based on academic excellence, extra-curricular activities, community activities and an essay as to why she has chosen the mental health field.
She is the daughter of Mike and Stephanie Hacker and will be attending Cameron University in Lawton. Danielle is an accomplished artist with many awards to her credit. She will be combining her interest in art and psychology for her education in art therapy.
NAMI is a grassroots organization advocating and educating families about mental illnesses. The organization offers a scholarship each year to an area senior to combat the shortage of trained personnel in the mental health field.
