Pauls Valley —

Adult and yearling horses and burros will be available for adoption during a Bureau of Land Management placement event here May 16-17.

Officials said 80 animals removed from public lands in the West will be offered, starting at 8 a.m. on May 16. An initial round of competitive bidding will take place at 10 a.m. to determine the adoption fee for animals sought by more than one person. Following that single bidding round,  walkup adoptions will be processed first-come, first-served for the minimum $125 fee for the remainder of the weekend.

BLM spokesman Paul McGuire said those interested in competitive bidding are advised to arrive early to make selections and complete adoption applications. There is an adoption limit of four animals.

The local BLM facility is located on Kimberlin Road at the I-35 Exit 74. McGuire said adopters who live within 100 miles of Pauls Valley can arrange for free delivery by the BLM staff, based on availability.
