Ardmore’s Harris named a Gates Scholar

The Gates-funded scholarship program has named Ardmore High School senior Robin Harris as a 2009 Gates Millennium Scholar. Harris is one of only 1,000 students selected from 48 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam for this honor and opportunity.


She is the daughter of Sophia Harris.  She is on track to graduate from Ardmore High School with a 3.936 grade point average and plans to attend the University of Oklahoma in the fall.


The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (established in 1999, was initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. 


The GMS Scholarship Award provides support for the cost of education by covering unmet needs and self-help, renewable awards for Gates Millennium Scholars maintaining satisfactory academic progress, graduate school funding for continuing Gates Millennium Scholars in the areas of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science and leadership development programs with distinctive personal, academic and professional growth opportunities.
