Owner Dawn Mitchell will close the doors of Sweet! bakery & cafe at 109 E. Main St. at the end of the business day on Friday. Sweet! opened in October 2007.
“We thank you for your support during our short time on Main Street, but unfortunately we did not generate the amount of business required to keep afloat,” Mitchell said Wednesday.
She’s hoping to continue catering and baking services. Kerry Tully, who also does a lot of baking for Sweet!, wants to continue as well. Mitchell said people can keep up with what’s going on by referring to the Web site at sweetardmore.com.
“I’m very sad,” Mitchell said.
“We really had high hopes for it and for this section of Main Street. We still have high hopes for this section of Main Street. We were hoping for a little more support than what we got. There’s a lot going on down here and I think it’s going to be fantastic. The gallery next to us is great and with Suzy’s opening, there’s a lot going on down here.”
Now she says she will get to spend more time at home with her 3-year-old son and possibly do some traveling with her husband.
