The Charles B. Goddard Center for the Visual and Performing Arts has announced its Art Studio’s summer class schedule for adults, ages 16 and older.
Registration is currently under way for a variety of classes in granite sculpting, ceramic sculpting, fiber art embellishment and a pastel workshop.
• Medal of Arts recipient Jesús Moroles has been added to the Art Studio’s teaching roster for the summer. Granite sculpting students will study under Morles during a four-day granite sculpting workshop July 17-20.
The cost of the workshop is $500, which does not include the granite. Granite of variable sizes will be available on site for a fee.
• A two-day ceramic-sculpting workshop with Susan Budge will take place July 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Budge is head of ceramics and art metals at San Antonio College in Texas. Her exhibit, “Myth, Magic and Mysteries,” can be viewed during the month of July in the Goddard galleries.
The cost is $100 and materials are provided.
• Fiber artist Pauline Bustamante from Estes Park, Colo., will teach a fabric-embellishment class on July 18 with an optional half-day class on July 19. This is a workshop about the use of some products that can be used in many creative projects, not just quilting.
Participants will make a small wall quilt as they learn to use things like Crystalina, Textiva, Lutradur, Misty Fuse, photo transfer, foiling and Angelina fiber.
For students who attended Saturday’s class, Sunday is an optional half-day session to explore machine quilting and finishing techniques.
The cost is $60 for Saturday or $75 for both days, with some materials included.
• A two-day pastel workshop with Oklahoma’s award-winning artist Marie Kash Weltzheimer is scheduled July 22 and 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. Weltzheimer has been a signature member of the Pastel Society of America since 1989.
She earned her degree in commercial art from the University of Central Oklahoma and has since been listed in Who’s Who in American Art and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
The cost is $60 and materials are not provided.
Space is limited in these classes. To register, call the Goddard Center office at (580) 226-0909. The center is located at 401 1st Ave. S.W. in Ardmore. Funding for Arts Studios classes is provided, in part, by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
