The Washington Theatre will celebrate its two-year anniversary with a concert at 7 p.m. on Sept. 20.

The show is titled “Music Legends Take the Stage.” The first “Branson-style” performance took place on Sept. 22, 2006, and the theater has since presented 36 similar concerts with different themes and bands since the opening.

The Washington Theater has also booked some tribute groups, such as Johnny Rogers of Chicago, with his Buddy Holly show titled “The History of Rock and Roll.” Most recently, Kraig Parker and the Royal Tribute Band performed an Elvis tribute show in front of a full house on Aug. 23.

“The goal of The Washington Theatre is to bring quality live entertainment to the families of this community,” owner Rosemary Fisher said. “The performance on Sept. 20 is perfectly in line with our mission.”

The Washington Theatre will feature a high-energy six- piece band now known as Overdrive. The name is new, but the band is from the Oklahoma Rodeo Opry and have performed together professionally for years. They were the house band at the Ford Center in 2005 for the Bombing Memorial featuring Toby Keith, Katrina Elam, Vince Gill, Joe Diffee, Ty England, The Byran Berline Band, and Jimmy Webb.

Overdrive has also backed artists such as Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius, David Frizzell and Johnny Rodriguez. Overdrive was also part of the recent Centennial Celebration for Oklahoma at the Redhawks Field, backing country superstar Bryan White. They recently opened for Restless Heart in Broken Bow, where Restless Heart band members said during their performance that “Overdrive was the best opening act they’ve had in the last 25 years.”

The band has recently backed local rising star Clancy Davis, opening for Blake Shelton at the WinStar Casino. They were the front band for Oklahoma City’s own Darla Z, performing along with Wayne Newton at the First Council Casino.

Band members are drummer Gary Bryan, Stratford; fiddle player Susan McGee, Edmond, bass guitarist Deni Stubbs, Edmond; vocalist Tara Scott, Duncan; lead guitarist Kenny Anderson, Slaughterville; and Jody Teeter, Lindsay, on acoustic guitar and background vocals.
