Alternate outdoor watering days are now in place for Lone Grove residents.
Enacted Thursday during a special council meeting, the plan is effective immediately to conserve the local supply. Residents are permitted to water on alternate days based on odd and even number dates. As approved, southside residents can water lawns and gardens on odd numbered days; northside watering will be permitted on even numbered dates.
Like the plan, enforcement also begins immediately. Police will issue arrest citations to any resident watering on the wrong day. By city ordinance, the violation is punishable by a $25 fine.
“We don’t have a problem with the water supply,” City Manager Marianne Elfert said. “We basically want to even out demand.”
The objective is to balance water pressure, which dropped over the weekend. She said restricted use should help keep the city water tower filled and ease the problem. She stressed the action is not water rationing.
Council members also acted on matters passed over from a monthly meeting and approved the purchase of solar-powered school zone flashers for a middle school crosswalk.
When Mayor Linda Keith opened the meeting with councilmen Roy Neill and Chris Young present, action was bypassed on special use permits being sought for dog grooming and kennel operations. By code, four council votes are required to approve a special permit. J.L. Self’s arrival enabled the council to act.
A grooming business permit was approved for Stephanie and Danny Hunt at 3524 Lindale Road. Neil Raney was given a permit to operate a kennel and breeding operation at 6048 Newport Road. The operation is limited to three dogs.
Traffic Highway Products, Dallas, was awarded a $7,694 contract for twin light solar powered school zone flashers. The company has specified three to four weeks lead time for installation.
