The Ardmore Habitat for Humanity is conducting a contest to encourage children to recycle aluminum cans.
“Recycle Build Change” will run through April 22, 2009. There are two age categories including 12-17 and 11 and younger.
To participate, register with the Ardmore Habitat for Humanity office at 301 West Main St., Suite 30. Once registered, participants can take cans to OK Iron and Metal, 700 P St. NE. Tell them the can proceeds are for Habitat for Humanity, print your name on the receipt and place it in the “Recycle Build Change” basket in the OK Iron and Metal office.
“The idea is that children can recycle aluminum cans, help Habitat for Humanity build houses for people in need, and as a result of the environmental impact and community involvement, change their world,” said Melanie McAdams, Ardmore Habitat for Humanity public relations chairperson. “One of our goals in putting together this contest was to empower kids to make a difference. I feel that this is a contest that benefits everyone. It encourages children to get involved in their community, it raises awareness of recycling and it gives youth a way to play a role in providing homes to families in need.”
Winners will be announced after April 22, 2009, on the Ardmore Habitat for Humanity Web site http://ardmorehabitatforhumanity.org. Winners will be selected based on total number of pounds of aluminum cans recycled prior to that date.
All proceeds from the contest will go to support Ardmore Habitat for Humanity.
Prizes will be given in each category. The first-place prize will be a Sony 40GB PlayStation 3, plus one game. Second place consists of a Sony PSP plus one game. And the third place prize is an i-Pod Nano 4GB and an iTunes gift card. There will also be 10 honorable mention prizes in each age category.
Those with questions may contact McAdams at (580) 775-0719, or the Habitat for Humanity office at (580) 223-1540.
