Chickasaw Nation voters have elected two Ardmore residents to fill seats in the tribal legislature.


David Woerz and Shana Tate Hammond were named winners Wednesday when election secretary Rita Loder announced the results of the tribe’s general election.


Woerz, the Pickens District Seat 1 incumbent, retained the post with 1,286 votes, giving him 55 percent of the vote total. Woerz defeated two challengers, Leslie Larsen Hicks, Ardmore, who received 528 votes, and Mike Watson, Ardmore, who garnered 507 of the total ballots cast in the election.


Hammond walked away from the election for the Pickens District Seat 4 with a 57-percent win over incumbent Wanda Blackwood, Elmore City. Hammond claimed 1,305 of the ballots.

Blackwood received 997 votes.


D. Scott Colbert, Tishomingo District Seat 1 incumbent, also retained his legislative seat. The Sulphur resident drew no challengers in the election.


Other election winners include:


Chickasaw Legislature


• Nancy Elliott of Ada won the Pontotoc District Seat 2 with 57 percent of the vote.
• Holly Easterling, Ada, Pontotoc District Seat 1 incumbent, retained her seat with 71 percent of the vote.


Supreme Court


• Justice Barbara Anne Smith drew no challengers for Seat 2 on the Supreme Court and automatically retains the post.


All elected officials will take the oath of office Oct. 1 at the Chickasaw Nation Headquarters in Ada.
