Calvary Baptist celebrates 100th anniversary of founding

Sulphur, OK —

Calvary Baptist Church will celebrate 100 years Aug. 10, according to senior deacon, Leo Barnes.


The centennial celebration will begin with coffee and donuts at 9 a.m. Services will feature former pastors including Brother Dean Rainwater. Rainwater, slated to be one of the event’s main speakers, was church pastor from 1951 through 1955 and led the congregation in the construction of the present sanctuary worship center building. Other former pastors participating in the special services are Brother Don Ritchie, Brother James Swain, Brother Brent Parsons and current pastor, Brother Bobby Allison.


Centennial service programs also include former music directors including, Terry Boston, Don Hardy, Joel Salazar, Aaron McDonald, Kelley Moore, Dwain Davis, Ezra Poe and Ron Jarman.
Barnes, who has been a member of the church for 60 years, said a special morning service with begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by an afternoon service at 1:30 p.m.


At noon there will be a meal “for the public” in the church fellowship hall. Barnes said a large tent will be set up on the church lawn for “fellowship.”


The public is invited to attend all the events.


The church is located at the corner of West 12th Street and Muskogee Street.
