In conjunction with an information session for parents about adolescent prescription drug use and abuse Wednesday, area residents will have an opportunity to safely rid their homes of expired or unused prescription drugs that same day.

The drop-off times are from 7 to 9 a.m., noon to 3 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the northeast corner of the parking lot at the Carter County Health Department, 405 S. Washington St. No liquids, syringes or drug paraphernalia will be accepted.

“This is a safe, environmentally-friendly way to dispose of dangerous drugs from your home,” health educator Judy Cavnar said. “And it keeps the drugs out of the hands of others who might have access to your medicine cabinet.”

Cavnar said the information session is designed for parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers or anyone else who works with or cares for adolescents. The free seminar is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carter County Health Department. Lunch will be provided, but anyone who plans to attend should call Cavnar at (580) 223-9705 to pre-register.

Sponsors include the Ardmore Police Department, the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Carter County Health Department, the Ardmore Area Prevention Resource Center, the Ardmore Beautification Council and the Domestic Violence Task Force.
