Before Mass the Adult “Wired Word” Sunday School meets at 8:30 a.m. Leading the in-the-news discussions is the Rev. Dawn Frankfurt. The topic Sunday: “Is Right Versus Wrong Gaining Ground as a Way to View Issues?” Discussion questions are:
• What are the advantages of evaluating issues from the perspective of right or wrong over looking at them as left-leaning or right-leaning? What might be lost by looking at them only in terms of right or wrong?
• Who gets to decide what is right and wrong? What is the basis for morality?
• How should Christians make decisions when the categories of “right” and “wrong” cannot be identified, where there are “gray” areas or where none of the choices are ideal?
• How do you decide what is right or what is wrong when thinking about national issues that the Bible does not directly address, such as health care reform proposals or Supreme Court nominations?
• One danger of looking at things only in terms of right and wrong is that we may be inclined to label people who agree with our conclusions as “good” and those who disagree as “bad.” Why is that not a logical jump?
• How does your understanding of right and wrong affect your participation in the national and local democratic processes?
Scriptures for the “Wired Word” discussion include: Judges 17:1-6, Proverbs 14:12, 1 Kings 18:17-40 and Mark 2:23-27.
