Four hundred local educators packed the Ardmore Convention Center Tuesday for the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce Teacher Appreciation reception. Teachers from Ardmore City Schools, Plainview Public Schools, Oak Hall Episcopal School, Ardmore Christian School and the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center enjoyed buffet choices with themes from famous films such as “The Godfather” and “The Three Amigos.”
Chamber Education Chair Keith King served as Master of Ceremonies. Entertainment was also provided by The Broadway Kids.
“We look at this event as a way to say thank you to our teachers,” said Tracy Morehead, regional vice president for MTC Federal Credit Union. “The event corresponds with Teacher Appreciation Week and it is really a lot of fun. Our teachers need to know how important they are to this community. And this is just a way to express our gratitude to them.”
Those in attendance received gift bags donated by area businesses, as well as gift cards. Door prizes ranging from porch swings to sunglasses were also presented. Teachers of the year from each site were also recognized.
“The event is a lot of fun,” said Ardmore High School teacher Patty Lee. “It is a great way to end the year. And it reminds us of what a great community we live in.”
