Jordan Dodd of Lone Grove earned third-place honors in the Outdoor Recreation Placement proficiency award area during the 82nd State FFA Convention on April 30.
Dodd won the award based on his responsibilities and achievements at Lake Murray Water Sports and Brown’s Hay Maze where he assisted in such jobs as repairing boats and jet skis, as well as taking people on lake tours.
“My public relations experiences gained from meeting and serving customers has reduced my shyness and boosted my confidence to the point that I am able to promote our business, make reservations, rent equipment and serve as tour guide on our lake tours,” Dodd said.
The Outdoor Recreation Placement proficiency award is designed to recognize students who are involved in a supervised agricultural experience related to outdoor recreational activities as the primary land use. Some activities included in this proficiency area are vacation cabins and cottages, camping areas, fishing, hunting, shooting preserves, guide services, riding stables, vacation farms and guest ranches, natural scenic or historic areas, and rodeo events where the member does not own or manage animals.
The 18-year-old Lone Grove FFA member is the son of Phillip and Susan Dodd. His agricultural education instructor and FFA adviser is Michael Stuckey.
