The Ardmore Kiwanis Club has recognized three seniors from area high schools as Students of the Month.
Michael Carpenter, a senior at Plainview High School, has a grade point average of 4.23. He is the son of Alan and Laura Carpenter.
He belongs to the student council, Beta Club, Plainview marching band, First United Methodist Church and Boy Scouts of America. He is a graduate of Oklahoma School of Science and Math, an AP Scholar and Eagle Scout.
He has held the offices of student council secretary and senior class treasurer.
His work experience includes being a file clerk for Family Health Center.
His future plans are to attend either OU or OSU and major in architectural engineering. He would then like to earn a master’s in divinity.
Keely Thompson, a senior at Dickson High School, has a grade point average of 4.35. She is the daughter of Wanetta Thompson.
She belongs to the student council, Showcase, band and varsity cheerleading. She has been student council chaplain, student council parliamentarian and a class officer.
She is a part of the Oklahoma Honor Society, superintendent’s honor roll, a student of the week twice, all-district choir, All-American cheerleader and voted most talented of her senior class.
She enjoys reading, playing the piano and singing.
Her work experience includes coaching at Kippers Gymnastics for a year.
Her future plans are to attend the University of Central Oklahoma and major in mathematics.
Shara McBroom, a senior at Ardmore High School, is the daughter of Larry and Julie McBroom.
She belongs to the National Honor Society, Leaflets, student council, volleyball, varsity basketball, track and tennis teams, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Fish Club, Acts of Random Kindness, First Baptist youth group and Mission Ashbrooke.
She has held the offices of NHS secretary, Leaflets treasurer, ARK co-president, FCA huddle leader, varsity team captain and the prayer leader for the Fish Club.
She has received the King-Roosevelt Crimson Honor for Leadership, President’s Award for Education Excellence, Oklahoma Honors Scholar, superintendent’s honor roll, principal’s honor roll, Leadership Award for tennis, Most Valuable Player Award for volleyball and basketball, honorable mention for All-District basketball and Outstanding Award in Honors for world history and basketball.
She enjoys going to church, spending time with friends and family, sports, cooking and more.
Her work experience includes babysitting and working at R.D. Williams and Company.
Her future plans are to attend Oklahoma State University and get her LPN or master’s in psychology.
