Ardmore, OK —

The Carter County OSU Extension Office and the Carter County Health Department have teamed up to provide an important training event for baby sitters.

Baby-sitting is a great opportunity for responsible youth to gain working experience, make money and gain experience for future career opportunities in childcare.

Camp-Sit-A-Lot is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 22 and from 9 a.m. until noon on July 23 at the Carter County OSU Extension Office, 107 1st Ave. SW.

Organizers said the camp is designed for mature, responsible youth ages 10 to 16. This camp has limited enrollment, but Camp-Sit-A-Lot will be offered on a regular basis and a waiting list is available.

The training is open to all area youth. The program offers participants the following opportunities:
* To earn money as trained baby sitter;
* To gain an understanding of themselves and children;
* To consider career options in child care; and
* To understand that safety is the biggest issue for baby sitters.

All participants will become certified in Child /Infant CPR and receive first-aid information from Carter County Health Department educators. Health educator Judy Cavnar will provide computer babies to the participants for hands-on infant care training.

Other topics to be covered include: child safety, behavior and guidance, providing healthy snacks, a ”no cook” recipe book, building your business and making and taking age-appropriate toys.

Each participant will receive a certificate and a notebook full of information.
The cost for the program is $12, which includes lunch, snacks, manual, recipe book and Red Cross CPR cards. Lunches will be a simple meals baby sitters can prepare for themselves and younger children.
