Madill, OK —

Signs of summer around the local school:

* Hallways full of desks and chairs for floor stripping and painting,

* Teachers dressed in grubbies for summer jobs,

* School boards with “house cleaning” agendas to prepare for back-to-school.

The role was played out Monday as the board of education cleared contract renewals, lease/purchase agreements, personnel matters and appointments from the agenda. Amendments to the high school concurrent enrollment policy and a new child nutrition charging policy were approved as the board opened consideration of action items.

Officials suggest parents will need to obtain copies of the new policies.

Two new teachers and an elementary aide were employed after the board voted to accept the resignations of Angie Kennedy and Cole Rushing. Kyla Selvy will join the faculty as an elementary computer teacher with Anthony Ruiz named to replace Rushing in the Ag-Ed program. Tracy Jaggers was approved for employment as an elementary aide, pending certification, and Dillon Matthew was added to the summer maintenance staff.

Annual contractural agreements with INCA Community Services, Administrative Services and Oklahoma State School Boards Association membership were renewed. A Chickasaw Nations contract was not presented. The board also extended an Energy Management System under provisions of a lease/purchase agreement.

Other renewed or extended lease/purchase agreements:

* School buses, Landmark Bank.

* Activity bus, Traxis Financial Group.

* Vocation education pickup, BancFirst.

The board also voted to purchase a used pickup for ag-ed and renewed appointments for the district treasurer, minutes clerk, encumbrance, payroll and activity fund clerks. In a separate action, activity fund sub-accounts were renewed with administrators Jon Dotson, John Carter, Cindy Dodds, Monte Womack, Bink Stafford, Steve Wilburn, Kerry Roberts, Jim Shipp, Katherine Gibson and Lynda McDaniel designated as countersigners.

Board chair Tony Hawkins chaired the meeting attended by Joe Hartin, Rita Pruitt, Kathleen Moore and Fermon Johnson.
