Davis, OK —

An Americana Unplugged concert to help raise money for Davis Boy Scout Troop 67 will start at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the La Ville Inn on Main Street featuring Arabesque from Norman.

Arabesque is Miranda Arana (flute), who teaches World Music at the University of Oklahoma, and Steve Vanlandingham (guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, banjo, ‘ud), who is a world-traveled archeologist.

According to promotional materials, “Arabesque strives to use music as a bridge to connect the east and west, the past and the future, the timely and the timeless. Arabesque strives to paint a sonic reflection of the ideals embodied by Cordoba, Spain, which during the Middle Ages, Christians, Muslims, Jews and Celts lived together in relative peace and harmony for almost 700 years, inspiring the later Western Renaissance.”

Arabesque will play one set of Middle Eastern-influenced music, and one set of music from the Anglo Middle Ages.

“As I always strive to bring culturally diverse music to Murray County, this is a unique opportunity for our audience to experience the style of music performed during both Jesus’ era and the era of King James” Americana Unplugged founder Larry Lyon said.

For this special event, the audience is encouraged to dress in Middle Eastern or Middle Age clothing. A prize will be given for both the best Middle Eastern and best Middle Age costume.

All proceeds from ticket sales goes to the artist, so for each ticket sold (up to 50), local businesses have pledged a matching $14 for the Davis Boy Scout Troop 67.

“The objective of the Boy Scout program is to help instill character, personal fitness and good citizenship in young men,” Troop 67 Scoutmaster Hugh Killblane said.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 in advance and $15 the day of the show. Advance tickets are available online at www.americanaunplugged.com and in downtown Davis at the LaVille Inn and Jone’s Custom Jewelry.
