The Community Choral Society Inc.  will present “Candlelight Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 and at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Northwest Baptist Church, 1609 Robinson Ave. N.W.

The choir is under the direction of Dr. David Hobbs and accompanied by Diane Boland.

This is the 21st year for the holiday chorale, which features a 65-piece choir and instrumental music including a harp, oboe, clarinet, french horn, organ and percussion, played by students from North Texas State University and possibly Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

The concert includes new arrangements of “Hallelujah” and “The Majesty and the Glory” mixed with familiar songs like “Deck the Halls” and other old favorites.

In the past, chorale concerts have featured handbell choirs ringing along with the singing, dueling piano quartets and guest directors.

As always, the audience is asked to join in on favorite Christmas carols and are allowed to sit back and enjoy the impressive harmonies on other musical numbers that have been developed through the years with choir members who return each holiday to participate. New members also join in, with this year’s group being probably one of the biggest yet.

In honor of its director, who had a liver transplant a few years ago, the chorale conducted a benefit concert to help raise money to help pay for Hobbs’ medical  bills.

This year’s concert is simply to share the holiday spirit with the community.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.
