The Murray State College Oklahoma Writers Series will present a writing workshop and public presentation by science fiction author K.D. Wentworth on Oct. 29.
Wentworth will present a writing workshop from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Ardmore Higher Education Center titled “How Do You Get There from Here? A Writer’s Guide to Success.” The cost is $20 for the public and $10 for seniors, college and all area students and teachers, payable at the door.
Wentworth’s free public presentation at 6:30 p.m. at the Ardmore Public Library will be “Imagination Squared: Where DO You Get Your Crazy Ideas?” Before her talk, she will sign books beginning at 6 p.m. Books will be offered for sale there through The Bookseller, an independent Ardmore bookstore.
Earlier in the day, she will also address the MSC Science Fiction Literature class, followed by a pizza lunch, where she will meet students, faculty and staff on the MSC Tishomingo campus.
A retired elementary teacher, Wentworth won the prestigious Writers of the Future Contest in 1988 and the Field Publications Teachers as Writers Award in 1991. She has sold more than 50 short stories to such publications as Aboriginal SF, Return to the Twilight Zone, Fantasy & Science Fiction and Realms of Fantasy. Three short stories have been Nebula Award finalists. She has published three novels with Del Rey, and her more recent “Hrinn” novels, “Black/on/Black” and “Stars/over/Stars” were published by Baen.
“We are thrilled to bring a writer of K.D.’s level to Murray and southern Oklahoma,” said Sharon Burris, program coordinator and MSC Language Arts Department instructor. “This program continues to inspire both our students and area writers of all levels through the workshops, as well as brings some of the best writers in the region to southern Oklahoma.”
