Two local men are accused of second-degree rape after being arrested Tuesday night.

Assistant District Attorney Charles Migliorino confirmed Wednesday formal charges were filed against Jeffrey Daniel Canler, 24, and Matt Bailey, 23.

Bailey was also charged with lewd and indecent proposals to a minor child.

Sgt. Ted Woodhead said the police department received information stating the two men had fled Tishomingo. They learned Bailey was staying in Sulphur while Canler was staying in Durant. Woodhead said the police departments of those cities found and arrested the men, and they were expected to be transported to the Johnston County Jail Wednesday.

Woodhead said in a court affidavit the Department of Human Services received a hotline report alleging the two men had sex with  an underage girl. After a police investigation, Woodhead obtained evidence the two men had sex with the girl and gave her beer as well. He said the two men knew the girl from church, and the men were in the church band.

If found guilty of second-degree rape, both men could face up to 15 years in prison. Bailey could face three to 20 years in prison if found guilty of lewd and indecent proposals to a minor child.
