Does Hollywood have an imagination? How many times have you watched a movie, and said “I’ve seen this before, this is just like that other movie”?
Hollywood has gone stupid and lost their imagination. Don’t get me wrong certain remakes like “The Fast Getaway” and “The Hills Have Eyes” that stick true to the original story, and are almost word for word to the original just updated and expanded a little are great. But when you take the same plot and change the scenery like the “Wrong Turn” film. The film was good but the plot was old.
I love low budget and independent films because the plots are original, and it’s up to the director, and the writers to make a good film. The suits in the film company don’t have a say on what happens. When too many people are trying to do too many things it gets ugly.
You have to understand that back in the 80’s fast cars, and guns made a movie. Now it takes plot, and character development to make a movie. I’ve gone to see movies with certain people, and they end up hating the film because they went in with certain expectations of what it should have been. When it doesn’t live up to their expectations they hate it.
I will use “Watchmen” as an example. People thought it was a superhero movie, but it was a drama based around superheroes instead. When it was more plot than action people were disappointed. I personally loved it as I do most movies.
I’ve personally only seen a few bad movies in my life and they were just movies that I wasn’t ready for. I guess that’s why Hollywood makes remakes because the original made so much money they know that the remake will make it too. Even if you hated the original you still go watch the remake just to see if the second sucked as much as the first, and if you loved the first you go to see if it lives up to the respect you gave the first. I personally wish that Hollywood would get some imagination and make some original movies for a change.
