There was no lag in Andrew Riesen’s game after the Big “I” tournament.
The Ardmore junior shot a 69 to place first in the Junior Maxwell Cup at Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club on Wednesday. Riesen was the best of a Dornick Hills’ six that dominated teams from Colonial (Dallas) and Prairie Dunes (Hutchinson, Kan.).
Dornick Hills shot a 372 to Colonial’s 403 and Prarie Dunes’ 409. Each of the teams in attendance play on courses designed by the late Perry Maxwell.
“I was a little worn out after the Big ‘I’ so I guess I’m playing pretty good coming off of it,” said Riesen, who placed 26th at the prestigious national tournament last week. “The only guys I had trouble with were on my own team.”
Daniel McMurry was a stroke behind Riesen at 70, followed by twin brother David, who shot a 73.
Cash Campbell (79), Haden Coffey (81) and Blake Riesen (89) rounded out the Dornick Hills scores.
