There’s plenty going on in southern Oklahoma for those who love the Halloween holiday. Ardmore Mayor Martin Dyer declared that residents will celebrate Halloween with neighborhood trick or treating on Saturday evening.
Thursday, Oct. 29
Lone Grove
- Haunted House, located 11/4 miles north of U.S. Highway 70 on Newport Road in Lone Grove. Open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Turner
- Turner Schools will hold their Fall Festival with booths and activities beginning at 5:30. The costume contest will be at 6 p.m. The crowning of the Festival King and Queen will be held immediately following the contest.
Friday, Oct. 30
Ardmore
- Trick or treating at Ardmore downtown businesses from 3 to 5 p.m. Main Street from Central Park to Washington Street and Washington to A Street will be closed to traffic.
- KKAJ radio is sponsoring a children’s costume contest at the Tivoli Theatre in Ardmore with registration at 3 p.m. The age groups included are 0-3, 4-7 and 8-12. They are also sponsoring the Merchant and Business Costume Contest.
- Emmanuel Baptist Church at 307 4th Ave. S.E. will have its 10th annual "Truck or Treat" from 5:30 to 7 p.m. providing children with a safe alternative to the door-to-door tradition. The church parking lot will be lined with open trunks of vehicles where adults will hand out candy. Free photos will also be available. To ask questions, call (580) 223-4034.
Saturday, Oct. 31
Ardmore
- Halloween party for adults at the Sante Fe Depot in Ardmore. There will be a costume contest, food and fun. Tickets are $20.
- Whispering Oaks Nursing Home invites all to their “Little Ghosts and Goblins” annual Halloween Carnival starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be games, candy, costume contests and prizes. The contest is open to adults and children ages 1-4, 5-7 and 8-13. There will also be food and drinks available for purchase with the proceeds going to the home’s activity fund. - Elks Lodge No. 1906 is sponsoring a Halloween Carnival from 6 to 8 p.m. at 2526 S. Commerce St. Concessions will be available at 5:30 p.m. There will be games, a cake walk, prizes and a raffle. There will also be a costume contest for children ages 0-2, 3-5 and 6-7. Tickets are three for $1. To ask questions, call (580) 226-3202.
Burneyville
- Burneyville Baptist Church will host a Trunk or Treat beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event will include hot dogs, chili and a hayride.
Marietta
- Community Halloween Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. at the intersection of Main and S.W. Second streets. Free hot dogs will be provided. There will be a haunted house fundraiser at the Marietta Fire Station, and the Eastside Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church will move their trunk or treat activities to the same location. There will also be a festival called “Slime Time” in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church from 5 to 7:30 p.m. It will feature a fun science presentation by Professor Gizmo.
Sulphur - Trick or treat night is set from 5 to 8 p.m.
Wilson
- The Wilson Chamber of Commerce is hosting “Halloween on Main” from 5 to 7 p.m. Businesses will be providing treats for trick or treaters. Main Street will be closed to provide a safe environment for all.
