Ardmore, OK —

The Salvation Army of Ardmore continues to serve victims of Hurricane Gustav in McComb, Miss.
Since the storm hit, the Ardmore disaster response team, assisted by teams from Altus, Norman, Enid, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, has provided over 20,000 meals and a like number of drinks and snacks.

“This is just the total for seven counties that we are serving in Mississippi,” Captain Ernest Hull,  Ardmore Salvation Army said.

The Salvation Army has over 100 disaster units in position across the affected areas, which also includes four mobile feeding kitchens. Mobile feeding kitchens are tractor trailers with large commercial kitchens. The Salvation Army is prepared to feed up to 560,000 meals per day to help in the emergency response phase of the operation.

“The cost to feed an individual a meal is $5,” Hull said. “When you multiply that by the number of meals served so far in McComb, it is not hard to see that at just this one location we have already spent $100,000. Monetary donations are desperately needed to continue serving the storm victims.”

The Ardmore unit of The Salvation Army will be deployed until September 13 when they expect to be relieved and head home.

“The days are long, but the work is rewarding,” Hull said. “At the end of the day when the work is over, I can honestly say that The Salvation Army made a difference.”

Donations may be taken to The Salvation Army office or mailed to The Salvation Army, 123 A St. SW, Ardmore, OK 73401. A notation may be made on the check for Hurricane Gustav.
