State Sen. Johnnie Crutchfield, D-Ardmore, voted 100 percent in support of issues important to Oklahoma seniors during the 2008 legislative session, according to the Oklahoma Aging Partnership.
Crutchfield’s perfect score was part of the information released in the OAP’s fourth annual report, which focused on how lawmakers voted on 12 key pieces of legislation.
“Between the years 2000 and 2030, the U.S. Census Bureau tells us Oklahoma is going to have a 66 percent increase in citizens who are 65 and older. That means understanding the needs and challenges facing our older Oklahomans will be crucial,” Crutchfield said. “Ensuring their safety, independence and dignity must be our top priority.”
Legislation to increase penalties for elder abuse, end stranger-originated life insurance schemes, continue critical studies to address hunger and increase access to health care are among the measures featured by OAP and supported by Crutchfield.
“I’m also very pleased that we passed legislation to begin the process of developing a stand-alone long-term care facility for registered sex offenders,” Crutchfield said. “It is important for families to know that their loved ones are in a safe environment, and I will do everything I can as state senator to ensure that is the case.”
