Members of the Ardmore Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored Chickasaw Elder Beulah Shavney during their continued celebration of Native American Heritage Month.


Shavney served during World War II in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC). Part of the second set of 24 paintings by Chickasaw artist Mike Larsen, her portrait entitled “She Served her Country” is currently on display at the Gaylord Pickens Museum in Oklahoma City. Ted Underwood, Director of the Chickasaw Nation Veterans Program, accepted the award on her behalf.


Members of the Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard posted the colors at the chapter meeting.
