DAR Founders Day was recently celebrated by members of the Ardmore Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and their guests.

The Noble Suite at the Greater Southwest Historical Museum was decorated in keeping with the theme “Quilts, Quills & Spinning Wheels: A Tribute to Our Founders.” This is the third year the chapter has had a Founders Day luncheon as a fundraiser for their Patriots of the Future Scholarship Fund.

Special guests of the chapter included Penny and Katie Sanford of Davis. Both ladies brought their spinning wheels and demonstrated the art of spinning wool fibers into yarn.

Charles and Barbara Dunlap presented the program “Cozy Quilts of 1890.” Charles related a bit of the history of quilting and information on early sewing machines. Many of the members and guests dressed in period costumes and hats, with Dana Dabbert winning the decorated hat contest.

The next meeting will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Ardmore Public Library. The program, “Following Our Heritage” will be presented by Pat Telford.
