Popular demand has Chickasaw National Recreation Area rangers doing encore performances of the special “mineral springs” walk programs this month.

Eric Leonard, CNRA Public Information Officer, said the special ranger-led programs exploring the mineral springs of the Platt Historic District will be offered Saturday and Sunday and again Nov. 21-22. The first program, “Living Waters,” will begin at 2 p.m. each Saturday. The second program, “Hope Springs Eternal,” will begin at 2 p.m. each Sunday.

“The mineral springs found here are the focal point of the Platt Historic District, and the primary reason behind the park’s original establishment in 1902,” Leonard said.

“Living Waters,” begins at the Vendome Well and ends at Pavilion Springs.

“This program addresses the historic use and vitality of the mineral springs. Participants should meet the ranger at the Vendome Well parking area located along Broadway Avenue,” Leonard said.

“Hope Springs Eternal,” focuses on the historic Bromide area.

“This program discusses the loss of water resources inside the park. Participants should meet the ranger at the Twelfth Street Fountain, just inside the park boundary at the end of Twelfth Street,” Leonard said.

Both walks last about an hour.

Those wishing to participate in one or both of the walks should bring water and wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes.

Anyone wanting to discuss the programs should call the CNRA Travertine Nature Center at (580) 622-7234.
