Create Ardmore is on track to get its monthly art walks up and running again as springtime draws closer.
The board discussed having its first art walk of the year on Saturday, April 29, at The Market Place on Broadway, 106 E. Broadway St. The art walks occur on the last Saturday of every month until winter approaches.
In conjunction with the art walk, there will be an 8x8 paint day where individuals are encouraged to paint an 8x8 canvas, at no cost, that will later be sold during a fundraising event, the Anonymous 8x8 supports Create Ardmore.
The fundraiser will also be tied in with the celebration of Ardmore’s 130th birthday. Create Ardmore Chairman Carl Clark said the goal is to have a day full of activities around Ardmore to celebrate the city’s milestone.
Board member Maria Wilkinson said they plan to team up with the Shops at Ardmore, where a birthday cake cutting takes place every year, as well as incorporate ideas new and old. After a recent idea session for the celebration, there was discussion of reviving the old Pioneer Breakfast that took place the morning of the birthday celebration, as well as street dances.
Wilkinson said they would like to reincorporate some of the nostalgic memories tied to the event, but are also open to new ideas. The 130th birthday will be July 28, but the celebration would likely take place on a Saturday, she said.
“Our goal is to truly cross-promote,” Wilkinson said. “Just to get everybody involved in it.”
