A memorial service for Ellen Louise Spraggins is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, in the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Phillip Borntrager officiating.
Ellen was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Lansing, Mich., to Oscar A. and Ruth (Jeske) Fox. She passed this life on Feb. 8, 2017, in Ardmore.
She was an avid animal lover. Over the past 35 years she combined her love for dogs and people by having and training show, obedience therapy dogs to bring joy to hundreds of people. Known as “The Dog Lady” around town, she loved to take her therapy dogs to the area retirement and nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and volunteered with Cross Timbers Hospice. She was an original founder of the Ardmore Kennel Club, and helped to establish animal programs such as Pets for Seniors, where she placed over 100 pets with seniors, Tail Waggin’ Tutors where children read to the dogs in lieu of their piers to gain confidence, and the E.S.P. Dog Training that matched veterans with PTSD with therapy dogs. She was also very active with local spay/neuter clinics.
She is survived by her two sons, Gregory Allen Spraggins of Lone Grove and David Lee Spraggins of Ardmore; sisters, Betty S. Steinbach of Ardmore, Ruth Ann Fox of Ardmore, Sandra Istre of South Carolina and Bobbie Sue Mark of Spring, Texas; and the man she loved for 48 years, Tommy Jacob.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Larry Spraggins; son, Robert Scott Spraggins; sister, Barbara Ellen Drummer; and a brother, Howard Nichols.
