MARIETTA — Services for Eugene Bond of Marietta, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, in Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Pastor Brett Alberda and Mark Bond officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Mr. Bond was born Nov. 25, 1926, at Thackerville, Okla., the son of William Thomas “W.T.” Bond and Evelyn Hott Bond. He passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, at his residence at the age of 90.
A resident of Love County all of his life, Mr. Bond graduated from Thackerville High School with the class of 1945. He served in the U.S. Army with the Military Police during WWII. On June 23, 1950, Gene married Nadine Koonce in Hot Springs, Ark. The couple has farmed and ranched in the Loves Valley community for many years, raising cattle and planting such row crops as cotton, corn and soybeans. Gene was also very active in the Eastside Baptist Church serving as deacon, Sunday school teacher and song leader, and most recently as deacon at First Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; seven brothers, Dean, Short, Jess, Olen, John, Lynn and Jimbo Bond; and three sisters, Celia Daughtry, Willie McGill and Ethel Scivally.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine of the home; twin sons, Michael Bond and wife, Rebecca of Franklin, Tenn., and Mark Bond of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Terry Lemons of Marlow, Okla., and Teresa and Jerry Don Stewart of Durant, Okla.; six grandchildren, Heather Holding, Melanie Woods, Cheri Walker, Robert Lemons, Nikki Barker and Alise Barker; and five great-grandchildren.
Serving as casket bearers will be Rick Brannan, Duane Hicks, Sheldon Bone, Marcus Dees, Kermit McKinney and Wayne Bond. Honorary bearers are Gen. Jim Thurman, Herbert Moore and Mark Basinger.
Time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
