An armed robbery at a Springer convenience store went amiss Wednesday night when the holdup man reportedly had issues handling his weapon of choice.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant says deputies responded shortly before 10 p.m. to the Springer Food Mart after dispatchers received a report of a man armed with a rifle who had attempted a holdup.
“He entered the store with a rifle, which he did point, but then had some difficulty with the weapon and fled,” Bryant said.
The man, described as a white male, wearing jeans, a red long-sleeve shirt and an orange ski mask, fled the area in a red four-door car.
Reports indicate it is unclear if the would-be bandit had an accomplice.
Anyone with information concerning the robber’s identity. his whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding the stymied stickup is urged to call the sheriff’s department at (580) 223-6014.
