Dora “Annette” Wilson was born in Tennessee July 8, 1958, to James and Annie Laura Ashford (Johnson). She was brought to Oklahoma that same year. She attended Ardmore City Schools and graduated with the AHS Class of 1976. Dora subsequently sought higher learning, enrolling at East Central University in Ada, Okla., where she discovered a passion for education. Following in the footsteps of her mother, she pursued and obtained a teaching degree. She also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., during her collegiate years. Upon graduation from ECU in 1980, Dora held teaching jobs with Ardmore City Schools, Chickasha City Schools and with the Texas State School in Gainesville, Texas, where she worked with troubled youth. Her career as an educator spanned nearly 30 years.
Dora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Danny Wilson.
She is survived by son, Peter Johnson (Samantha) of Ocala, Fla.; daughter, Doria Johnson of Ardmore; son, Brendan Lewis of Norman; sister, Hettie Ashford of Ardmore; and brother, Thomas Johnson (Catherine) of Alexandria, Va. She also welcomed Keauyante and Keauveon Wilson into her home as sons.
The services will be 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, 16 E Street NE, with the Reverend Dr. Wayne A. Lawson officiating. Services are under the direction of Grant-Owens Funeral Home, 515 East Main Street.
