STUART, Va. — Mark Anthony Styers, 57, of Ardmore, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, in Winston Salem, N.C. He was born Nov. 11, 1959, in Winston Salem to Harold Walker Styers Sr. and Mary Alice Frye Styers.
Mark was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Rodney Styers; and a sister, Robin Styers.
Known as a true cowboy, Mark enjoyed working with horses and owned them his entire adult life. A professional farrier and ranch manager, Mark’s career took him all over the country. He shod horses from coast to coast, ranging in discipline from reiners to cutters to hunter/jumpers. Mark lived in Ardmore for 22 years, where he was the former manager of the Griffin Ranch and the Triple U Ranch. He was employed at Michelin as an Industrial Troubleshooter since 2014. Mark attended First United Methodist Church, Ardmore, and was a member of the Crosspoint Emmaus Community. Local friends and family remember him for his giving spirit, gentle nature with horses, and immeasurable knowledge of ranch construction and management.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Riley Mae Styers, 10, of Ardmore; his mother, Mary Alice Styers of Patrick Springs, Va.; a brother, Harold Styers Jr. of Patrick Springs, Va.; a sister, Shirley Styers Phelps of Winston Salem, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was a loving and devoted father, beloved son, and dearly admired, brother, uncle, friend, and co-worker.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart, Va., where he was interred in the family plot.
