PLAINVIEW — An old expression says “Expect nothing, and be ready for anything.”

What was expected Thursday was a bracket style one day tournament at Plainview High School. However, with Thackerville and Comanche both dropping out of the tournament, the remaining four teams played a round-robin schedule against one another. Turner, Sulphur and Plainview all participated against the Southmoore JV squad.

Turner 9 Plainview 1

The opening contest brought about it a familiar feeling this season for the No. 6 Lady Falcons, a victory.

Turner was able to turn back the challenge of the host Lady Indians in five innings.

Jacey Henry got the Lady Falcons on the board with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0.

Tracy McGill then brought home a run with a sacrifice fly RBI, before Chloe Tynes brought home a run on a sacrifice fly of her own to make it 3-0.

Plainview got on the board in the top of the third inning when Kyra Treadwell brought home Hanna Ramirez on an RBI single to right.

But, the Lady Falcons responded with a home run from Ryleigh Parker to begin the bottom half of the inning.

Turner would add four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. First, Shyanne Parker brought home two runs with an RBI double to center, before later scoring off an error in center field to make it 7-1.

Ryleigh Parker then made it 8-1 with an RBI single to left field.

THS got one more run in the bottom of the fifth through a sacrifice fly RBI from Alli Willis.

Rebecca Stevens got the win on the mound for the Lady Falcons, while Katelyn Rozzell took the loss for the Lady Indians.

Sulphur 7 Southmoore JV 1

Another ranked team looking to make a statement Thursday was the No. 7 Lady Bulldogs from Sulphur High School.

SHS got its day off to a solid start with a convincing 7-1 victory over the Lady Sabercats from Southmoore’s junior varsity.

Leading 5-0 after two innings, Southmoore got a run back in the top of the fourth inning.

However, Sulphur padded its lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with Taylor McAlister slapping an RBI single through the right side, before Bayleigh Simon followed suit with an RBI single of her own to make it 7-1.

Savannah Ashford got the win on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs.

Sulphur 5 Turner 4

In what turned out to be the championship game of the day, the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Falcons put on a classic matchup of two-ranked teams.

Ultimately, it was the Lady Bulldogs just squeaking past with a narrow one-run victory.

An RBI groundout from Ryleigh Parker put the Lady Falcons up 1-0 in the top of the first.

Sulphur responded with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning, with Abby Beck tying the game through an RBI double off the left field wall.

Taylor McAlister gave Sulphur the lead with a two-RBI double off the wall in left.

The lead was widened to 4-1 in the bottom of the second when Savannah Ashford collected an RBI single.

THS managed to get a run back through a fielder’s choice RBI from Jaleigh Durst to make it 4-2 in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Falcons got closer in the fourth when Alli Willis made it a one-run game with a sacrifice fly RBI. Then, Jacey Henry tied the game with a home run to left field in the top of the fifth.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the fifth that Sulphur regained the advantage with Ashlie Hedemann bringing home the winning run off a fielders choice RBI.

Southmoore JV 11 Plainview 0

It was a bad day at the office for the Lady Indians against the Southmoore JV squad. An 11-0 decision was the end result in the run-rule shortened contest.

Southmoore scored two runs in the first, three in the second and six more in the third inning to claim the victory.

Sulphur 15 Plainview 1 F/3

The Lady Bulldogs finished off a clean sweep on the day with a run-rule victory over Plainview in the final contest of the afternoon.

Plainview took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kyra Treadwell scored off a throwing error at third base.

Taylor McAlister then slapped a three-RBI triple to left field in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1, before Bayleigh Simon made it 4-1 with an RBI single.

A two-RBI hit from Haley Keith, followed by an RBI single from Kenzi Ruth made it 7-1 in the first.
