Following a time of failing health, well known Gene Autry resident, Marvin Clyde Walker, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017, at his Gene Autry residence at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 23 days.
Born to the late Frank S. Walker and Ivory (Thrasher) Walker, December 21, 1922, at Rocky Point, South of Ardmore, that became part of Lake Murray State Park, the family then moved to Berwyn, Oklahoma (now Gene Autry) in 1935 and has lived there since.
A graduate of Berwyn High School, the class of 1941, Clyde was of Baptist faith and assisted with the construction of the present Gene Autry Baptist Church. He and Grace Brown were married June 17, 1942 at Ardmore. They were the parents of five sons, Truman, Jimmy, Harold, Robert and Gordon. Grace passed away January 25, 1996.
A respected custom home builder and rancher, Clyde served on the Berwyn School Board of Education for 20 years; was a founding member and past president of the Gene Autry Roundup Club and arranged for the construction of the Clyde Walker Rodeo Arena and sponsored the Gene Autry Rodeo.  He helped to organize and served as a member of the Gene Autry Volunteer Fire Department.  One of his last projects was opening and operating the “Gene Autry Depot”, a cafe and convenience store.
A life member of the Oklahoma State Coon Hunters Association, in his leisure time he enjoyed the sport of coon hunting with his Treeing Walker hounds and friends. For several years he undertook and sponsored Gene Autry Barbecue Cookouts at the rodeo arena for members of the community and surrounding towns. Clyde loved his ranch, where he raised Beef Master Cattle and Quarter Horses. He always grew a large garden at his home with a variety of vegetables and melons for his family and friends.
Clyde Walker was a valued and giving member of the Gene Autry community; he was always ready and willing to help when needed. His counsel and service will be greatly missed in the days to come by family, friends and the community.
Clyde is survived by four sons, Jimmy Walker and his wife, Marsha, Harold Walker, Robert Walker and his wife, Lanetta, Gordon Walker and his wife, Edna, all of Gene Autry;  his brother, R. B. Walker, Ardmore; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and wife, Peggy Hughes Walker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Grace Brown Walker; a son, Truman Walker; and two sisters, Juanita Boyd and Helen Warren.
Special thanks and appreciation are extended to Clyde’s caregivers Rhonda Tidwell, Michelle Morgan, Tarra Bond, Vonda Blue and Pat Stanford.
