Ardmore police arrested an assistant Ardmore City Schools coach Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Police Chief Kevin Norris said 31-year-old Virgil Harmon, Jr. was arrested without incident. He was booked into the Carter County Detention Center.
The deputy chief indicated the case involves the solicitation of sexual contact or communication with a minor by use of technology. Norris said an investigation was launched after potential evidence found on a cell phone was turned over to investigators. Subsequent interviews resulted in Harmon’s arrest.
However, Norris cautioned late Wednesday the initial investigation has expanded and the case remains ongoing.
“This is a much larger investigation than we originally thought. It is going to take a lot of leg work,” Norris explained.
Formal charges are pending against the coach who is listed as an Ardmore City Schools assistant high school football and girls basketball coach and girls junior varsity basketball coach.
