Normally when someone hears the terms “5K” and “Fun Run”, fancy is the last thing they’d associate with them.

Normally when someone hears the terms “5K” and “Fun Run”, fancy is the last thing they’d associate with them.

But for the third straight year this July, Fancy isn’t just a term to describe this 5K/Fun Run, it’s the main course.

On July 8, the third annual Fancy 5K/Fun Run will take place from Ardmore Regional Park, with proceeds benefitting the Lauren’s Legacy Foundation.

Lauren’s Legacy Foundation was named in honor of Lauren Marie Smith, 12-year old Dickson student who tragically passed away on August 16, after an accident on an all terrain vehicle. The foundation was created to honor her legacy of helping others, while instilling Christian values and lifestyles in Carter County young adults.

While it began as just a scholarship, the foundation has grown into so much more. Now, Lauren’s Legacy Foundation is able to give college scholarships at three area schools, scholarships to athletic camps, as well as being able to provide in many other areas for those in the community.

“Lauren liked for everything to be fancy,” Race coordinator and Lauren’s Legacy founder Missy Smith said. “This is meant to be a fun event where people can just be themselves. It’s not required to dress up in tutu’s, tiara’s or anything like that, but we do encourage it. Every school child aged 4-18 is able to run free of charge in this event, which is something we take great pride in doing.”

Last year more than 100 school aged children ran in the event at Ardmore Regional Park.

Awards will be given out for the fanciest costume at the race, which is $30 for those wishing to run in the 5K event, and $25 for those participating in the 1 mile run. Ghost runners can participate for $20.

“Girls can run in a dress, if they can tolerate it,” Smith added. “Guys can dress up as well if they want. We had one girl one year wear an entire Elsa (Frozen) costume. This is just a great event and something we love doing every year to honor Lauren.”

The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. on July 8, and those wishing to run can sign up early Thursday evening from 4-6 p.m. at Henry Roberts Pharmacy, or anytime during normal business hours.

Additional sign up spots can be found at the Buckle in the Shops at Ardmore, Pharmacy Plus in Madill, and Kitchen 117 in Sulphur.

Packets can be picked up the day before the race on July 7 from 4-8 p.m. at the Garden Center located at 500 Stanley Ave. in southwest Ardmore.

For those picking up their packets the day of the race, packet pickup will begin at 6 a.m.

T-shirts cannot be guaranteed for those wishing to signup after June 19.
