A memorial service for John Edward Maher has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Oby Zumnas officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. The Devotion of the Rosary will be 6 p.m. Thursday evening followed by a time of visitation and support for the family and friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
John Edward Maher was born March 25, 1928, in Oklahoma City, to Thomas A. and Elnora Margaret (McNulty) Maher. He passed this life on June 30, 2017, at his residence in Dickson. John attended St. Agnes Academy in Ardmore. He graduated from Murray State College and Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State), with a degree in Animal Husbandry and served in the Army at Camp Hale, Colorado and in Korea. He and Nancy Mills were married on May 9, 1959, in Ardmore. He worked his entire life as a farmer and rancher on his family farm. John was active in the community, serving for many years on the board of the Southern Oklahoma Vocational Technical School and the Carter County Farm Services Committee.
He is survived by his children, Mary White and her husband, Keith, Kathleen Maher, Peggy Maher, Trish Maher and Sean Maher and his wife, Julie; his two sisters, Eileen Oltmanns and Betty Ann Bellinghausen; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; brothers, Thomas and Dennis Maher; and sisters, Nora Margaret Wiles and Patricia Norcross.
Memorials may be left to the St. Mary building fund at 101 E St. SW, Ardmore, OK.
