LONE GROVE — When fans enter the gates at Lone Grove High School this season for Longhorn football, they’ll be doing so with a new look stadium in sight.

Construction will begin this week on a remodeling project on both the home and away stands at the LGHS football stadium, along with a new press box.

The project coincides with a bond which was passed, along with the school board approving the replacement of the stands and the press box.

“It was important for us to have the upgrades to the football stadium to bring our overall vision of Longhorn Athletics to where we want it to be,” Lone Grove athletic director Trey Owens said. “We have an outstanding school district from academics to athletics. The football team is a huge part of our community and the new stadium upgrades will be something we will all be proud of.”

“These are exciting times for everyone associated with Lone Grove athletics,” Owens added.

Owens mentioned the project is on course to be completed in time for the regular season.

Punneo’s in Lone Grove donated equipment which was used for the initial demolition of the stadium, and the Chickasaw Nation also donated financial assistance which was used for the project.

Lone Grove football will begin the 2017 season with a scrimmage on August 18 against Newcastle.

The Longhorns will then play the opening game of their non-conference schedule against Cache on the road Aug. 25, with the home opener taking place on Sept. 1 against Davis. Games against Blanchard, Plainview and Sulphur on the road will then follow the next three weeks, before the next home game.
