A Murray County couple was arrested Saturday by Carter County deputies after a domestic dispute led to a home being broken into and false accusations of rape, according to Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant. Bryant said a dispute between Charles Nick Martin and Ashley Renea Wallace turned violent Saturday when Martin struck Wallace with a rifle during a domestic altercation.
Wallace then took off on foot in rural Carter County, approaching several area homes and making claims about being abducted and raped by Martin, claims later refuted as being false, according to Bryant.
Wallace then broke into a home and the home owner pulled a gun on her before she fled the scene.
Wallace was arrested for public intoxication and burglary-first degree. Martin was arrested and charged with possession of paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm after felony conviction.
“This is the type of behavior that we cannot tolerate in this community,” Bryant said, adding that an event like this reinforces the department’s continuing efforts in combating the ongoing meth epidemic.
