The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Mannsville man Friday after he allegedly molested two children.
Richard James Baker, 58, was arrested and booked into the Johnston County Jail late Friday evening.
Baker’s arrest followed an investigation into his actions by Undersheriff Johnny Russell. The alleged crimes were reported to law enforcement from the Department of Human Services child welfare workers in Muskogee County.
DHS workers told police that one of the child victims had come forward and said she had been sexually assaulted by Baker multiple times during a three to five year period at Baker’s residence.
“During the course of the investigation forensic interviews were conducted on the child victim,” Sheriff Jon Smith said in a statement. “Russell (also) met with investigators from DHS and ultimately arranged an interview with the suspect. It was during the interview the suspect not only admitted to committing sexual acts upon one female child, but an additional female child as well.”
The children ranged from ages 8-12-years-old during the time of the alleged assaults, deputies said.
Baker remained in the Johnston County Jail Wednesday on a $100,000 bond.
Sheriff’s officials are still trying to obtain information from the second victim, and ask that anyone with information about this alleged assault, or any other assault contact the sheriff’s office at 580-371-2646.
