In what was an eventful meeting, the Ardmore Development Authority appointed a vice-president of operations and subleased an aircraft parking pad at the Ardmore Industrial Airpark to Tactical Electronics and Military Supply, LLC.
The ADA appointed Tyler Young as the vice-president of operations and assistant secretary to the Ardmore Development Authority at a special meeting held Monday afternoon.
The move ensures that if CEO Mita Bates is unavailable, Young has the authority to make decisions in her absence.
“I started at the ADA as an intern,” Young said. “So it’s really an honor to have come this far. I owe a lot to the Development Authority. I’m really honored.”
The ADA also approved a motion to lease an aircraft parking pad at the Airpark to Tactical Electronics and Military Supply, LLC, of Broken Arrow for the purpose of testing their new explosive technology.
Tactical Electronics will fly in a plane that is on its way to being salvaged and park it in their rented space. They will take off the engines and put explosives on the door of the plane and attempt to blow it open with minimal damage to the plane. The object is to be able to break into a plane during a crisis situation without harming anyone inside.
The technology Tactical Electronics develops is then sold to government agencies across the globe.
Some board members expressed concern over allowing the company to use explosives at the Airpark, but Bates was able to quell their worries.
Bates said that the ADA, and airport employees, will be aware of when the company has live explosives on site because they will have to file the information with the Federal Aviation Commission and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Bates said these explosions aren’t big and shouldn’t be disruptive to business at the airport.
The company will lease the parking plat for a period of 90 days, with the option to extend, and pay the authority $2,000 a month in rent.
“They are the perfect blend of technology and aviation,” Bates said. “They have been a tenant before and we had a very successful relationship with Tactical Electronics during that time. We are excited to work with them, and hope to keep working with them in the future.”
