THACKERVILLE — While most of the area saw their opening day contests washed out, the Wilson Lady Eagles took full advantage of being able to play Monday night.

Fueled by a five-run fifth inning, the Lady Eagles got off to a winning start with a convincing 7-2 victory over the Thackerville Lady Wildcats at Lady Wildcat Field.

Helping the cause for Wilson on the mound was a complete game performance from Destiny Colbert, which included her striking out six batters.

It was Thackerville though striking first in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kayla Liddell slapped an RBI single scoring Emily Sloan to make it 1-0. Liddell would later score on a throwing error to make it 2-0 for the Lady Wildcats.

However, the lead didn’t last long for the ladies in blue and white.

Wilson cut the deficit in half in the top half of the fifth when Taylor Wolf registered an RBI hit which scored Makayla Raines.

Elizabeth Carlile then slapped an RBI base hit which scored Wolf to tie the game at 2-2. Courtney Schiralli then gave the Lady Eagles the lead at 3-2 when she scored Carlile.

Bethany Ross made it 4-2 for the Lady Eagles, before Ivy Osteen finished the inning off with an RBI bloop single to left field.

Osteen wasn’t finished though as she gave the Lady Eagles some insurance runs in the top of the seventh with a two-run inside the park home run.

Wilson will be on the road today taking on the Ringling Lady Blue Devils, while Thackerville will be taking on Paoli.
