After seeing their new head coaches debut spoiled by rain on Monday, the Davis Lady Wolves made up for it on Tuesday, giving new skipper Tyler Lampkin a special surprise.

After seeing their new head coaches debut spoiled by rain on Monday, the Davis Lady Wolves made up for it on Tuesday, giving new skipper Tyler Lampkin a special surprise.

Davis managed to squeak out a close victory against the Plainview Lady Indians, before handling the Healdton Lady Bulldogs at home, giving the first-year coach a pair of victories to begin the season.

Healdton defeated Plainview 11-3 in the other contest on the day at DHS.

 Davis 15, PHS 14

In what turned out to be a wild offensive contest, the Lady Wolves needed a walk-off single from Jolee Grinstead to finally put away the Lady Indians in the opening game Tuesday.

Down 14-11 entering the seventh, Sydney Martin made it 14-12 with an RBI single.

Gracie Eggleston then made it 14-13 with an RBI hit of her own, before the game was won thanks to Grinstead’s two-RBI single up the middle.

Plainview took an early 1-0 lead when Halee Womack scored off a throwing error in the top of the first.

Lauren Son tied the game for Davis in the bottom half of the inning when she registered an RBI groundout.

Peyton Garrett scored on an error in the second to put Plainview back in front momentarily.

Davis stormed back in the bottom half of the inning with three runs courtesy of an RBI groundout from Riley Webber, an RBI double from Sydney Martin and a steal of home by Alex Johnson.

Not to be outdone, PHS came back with a three spot of its own in the third.

An RBI double from Hannah Ramirez and an RBI groundout from Lexi Hackney tied the game at 4-4, before Tatum Brewster laid down a bunt, leading to an error allowing Brooklyn Storts to score, making it a 5-4 Plainview lead.

Following a quiet third inning for the Lady Wolves, they managed to come back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead. 

Sydney Martin tied the game with an RBI double, before Lynsey Martin put DHS in the lead with an RBI single.

Brine Dulaney made it  7-5, and would later score on an error to make it 9-5. Hannah Koch made it 8-5 when she scored following a dropped third strike on a wild pitch.

The madness continued in the fifth inning.

First, Rebekah Mose and Hackney each scored on the same throwing error on a pickoff attempt at third, before Billye Lester made it 9-8 with an RBI double.

Garrett tied the game when she scored off an error, before Womack hit an RBI single to put Plainview in the lead at 10-9.

Storts would then slap an RBI double, before Hackney hit a two-RBI double to put Plainview up 13-9.

Brewster finished the scoring with an RBI triple. 

Lauren Son got the win on the mound for the Lady Wolves, throwing 6 2/3 innings of work. She allowed 11 earned runs on 14 hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Britney Dunlap took the loss for the Lady Indians, throwing 6 2/3 innings of work. She allowed 12 earned runs on 16 hits with nine walks and one strikeout.

 Davis 6, HHS 3

Things went much smoother against the Healdton Lady Bulldogs.

At first though, it looked like it would be another bumpy ride.

Maddie Bradberry gave HHS a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the first.

Lauren Son tied the game for Davis with an RBI single, before Lynsey Martin scored on a passed ball to make it 2-1. Brinlee Dulaney made it 3-1 for the Lady Wolves with an RBI single to right.

Josey Brooks scored for Healdton on an error to make it 3-2 in the top of the fourth.

Lynsey Martin made it 4-2 for Davis with an RBI single, before later scoring on a passed ball to make it 5-2.

Bradberry would hit another RBI single in the top of the sixth to make it 5-3.

Son would hit a sacrifice fly RBI in the bottom of the sixth for Davis.

Mollie Marshall took the loss on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs, throwing six innings of work. She allowed five earned runs on 12 hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Son got the win for Davis, throwing a complete game effort. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Healdton will be competing this weekend at the Lady Broncho Invitational hosted by Central High in Marlow. Plainview will be at the Chisholm Trail Classic in Shawnee beginning on Thursday. 

Davis is off until next week when they play Comanche at the Field of Dreams on the road to begin the week.
